Focus on the journey of innovative drugs from the laboratory to clinical practice
Gather a seasoned‑R&D team and cutting‑edge technology platforms to empower efficient new‑drug research and development
Jiangsu Fushi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as: Fushi Bio) was established in December 2021. It was co-founded by Professor He Wei, Academician Li Yadong, and Professor Liu Lei from the School of Pharmacy of Tsinghua University, Professor Ruan Ke from the University of Science and Technology of China, and Dr. Xia Chuanjun, Chairman of Beijing Xiahe Technology. Relying on multi-modal fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD), Fushi Biotech focuses on the development of original (first-in-class, FIC) small molecule drugs for diseases with major unmet needs in fields such as oncology.
The FBDD concept emerged at the beginning of this century and has developed significantly in the past 20 years. This model has successfully produced several new drugs approved by the US FDA and dozens of drug candidates in human clinical trials. FBDD has become a drug discovery model that has attracted widespread attention in recent years due to its strong ability to expand difficult-to-drug targets, high success rate, high novelty, and small required compound library. The approval of two FBDD source drugs, Venetoclax (ABT-199, targeting protein-protein interaction targets) and Sotorasib (AMG 510, targeting classic difficult-to-drug targets), fully confirms the huge application potential of FBDD in breaking through various difficult-to-treat and difficult-to-drug targets.
Before the establishment of Fushi Biotechnology, the founding team had been operating as a scientific research team in the field of FBDD for nearly ten years, completed the screening of more than a dozen protein libraries, and completed the discovery of lead-like compounds on multiple first-in-class targets. In 2022, Fushi Biotech completed an angel round of financing of 100 million yuan (jointly led by Sany Innovation Investment and CICC Capital) and entered the stage of corporate operation. Fushi Biotech's initial R&D center is located in the Economic Development Zone of Hefei City. Fushi Biotechnology will persist in the exploration and development of new FIC drugs with long-term value by integrating and innovating FBDD platform technology.
Fushi Biotech currently has 5 full-time employees with Ph.D.s, 11 with master's degrees, and more than 80% of them are graduate students. It is rapidly advancing research on related projects, including preclinical research and clinical applications for some projects. Among Fushi Biotech's current self-owned and cooperative pipelines, HL-21 is in the clinical phase II stage and FS-207 is in the clinical research stage. It is expected that in the next three years, Fushi Biotech will form a rich pipeline with distinctive characteristics, reasonable gradients and promising prospects.
